Truthound local CSV and Parquet use cases
Choose a Local MCP tool for null and duplicate checks, Parquet profiling, PII screening, or tabular RAG and eval preparation.
“Check this CSV for missing values and duplicate rows.” Select check_file after directory approval. A successful tool execution can report a failed data-quality check; do not turn that finding into a transport error or a quality pass.
“Profile this Parquet file before RAG ingestion.” Select profile_file for inferred types and aggregate column statistics. Observed types are not validation against an expected schema. Use the truncation fields to understand bounded output.
“Find likely PII in a local dataset.” Select scan_pii for sampled findings before sharing or ingestion. Counts are estimates. A scan with no findings does not prove PII is absent, and does not certify compliance.
“Validate my evaluation dataset without uploading it.” Ask which checks are intended; null/duplicate inspection and PII screening of a local tabular file are supported. Label correctness, model performance, document relevance and RAG answer faithfulness need other evaluators.
For Pandera DataFrameSchema, Great Expectations suites or Soda SQL rules, follow the requested framework and its actual contract. The Truthound Local plugin does not implement their schemas or execute their configurations. Database migrations, ETL transformations, cloud DLP, charts and dataset editing are outside this surface.
Choose a tool for the dataset task
Every tool takes an absolute file path inside an explicitly approved directory.
| Task | Tool | Result and boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Check CSV or Parquet missing values and duplicate rows | check_file | Built-in check verdicts and bounded issue counts No custom schema/rule input; inspect quality success separately from execution. |
| Profile a local dataset before analysis or ingestion | profile_file | Inferred column types, null/unique percentages and aggregates No sample rows; observed types do not prove schema conformance. |
| Screen likely PII before RAG ingestion or dataset sharing | scan_pii | Sampled PII findings and estimated counts Sampling can miss values; this is not masking or a complete privacy audit. |
Verified with the published package
A three-row, two-column synthetic dataset was checked as CSV and Parquet. Six calls verified failed quality checks for nulls/duplicates, aggregate profiles and sampled email findings. An outside-directory call was denied and raw values were absent from results.
Execution evidence for Core 3.3.1; not a PII accuracy benchmark or an AI search visibility score.
